Human rights?

In questione i diritti umani, tema abusato sino all’indifferenza, tanta l’abitudine della domanda. Eppure, Christos Alaveras, Christina Foitou & Thodoris Papadimitriou adottano una prospettiva straniante rispetto alla retorica che si accompagna sempre alle astrazioni della politica, quali diritto e essere umano. Il punto di vista è infatti dato dal punto di intersezione tra coscienza e gesto, da un lato, e immagine (ciò che è rappresentato) e vuoto (l’irrappresentabile che si nasconde), dall’altro.

Dicono gli artisti a proposito dell’opera:

“In this experiential performance, which occurred among close friends, we searched for the inner bond of the individual with the human rights. Christina is facing various sketches depicting aspects of human rights violations. Like the character in Antonioni’s “Blow Up“, she is trying to find what’s behind all this. In all the drama revealed while taking down the sketches on by one, her painted reflection appears in a chaotically drawn synthesis, which later she takes down as well in order to exorcise it with intense gestures, while in the indigo of the cello bewilderment. Christos freezes her repeatedly and with flash-like charcoal lines he imprints her stages of expression on a large surface. Eventually, Christina sweeps on this gestural registration of the penetration to the inner consciousness and stops in a silent position, under the traces of the whole act.”
